In 1946, Katsumi Yanagisawa started manufacturing music stands in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. Due to the increase of music education in schools and the popularity of jazz music, Yanagisawa was soon selling lotd of music stands, and realizing that the domestic production of musical instruments was very non-existent, he expanded his production to include drum products. In 1950, the Pearl name is born.

Joined by Katsumi's eldest son, Mitsuo, the business expanded greatly over the years and got very involved in exporting. As rock and roll came into popularity, Pearl became a bigger and bigger name, with many famous drummers using Pearl Drums, including Ed Shaughnessy of the Tonight Show Band and Peter Criss of Kiss.

Pearl is also a leader in marching band drum equipment, along with many different percussion instruments and accessories. You'll find a full range of Pearl products at Music123 .
